DICK SMOTHERS SAID: "But now, they look at me--if I give them a credit card, you know, buying gas or something--'are you related to those guys?' They won't ask me if I'm one of them. If I'm a relation."

Dick's phraseology influenced Jean Stafford
Переглядів 3,4 тис.14 років тому
Dick Cavett's monolog from February 21, 1973. Dick used the phrase "an influx of suckers". I'm convinced that Jean Stafford heard that phrase. Because 5 years later, Jean wrote a short story called AN INFLUX OF POETS. A story which Dick himself praised on one of Dick's shows.

Yoko knows she can’t sing, I love her, she’s an artist. The Neo-Dada artists love to dematerialize reality and the components of the perfection we seek in life. In this performance and other ones Yoko wants people to feel a certain discomfort which I love. LOL and I love all the comments because this is what Yoko wants to highlight : how human beings lean towards judgment, hate and criticism when something isn’t perfect instead of listening to the real message.

There is no art or message. She is just a talentless woman with delusions of talent and thinks because it is different it is good. Can’t polish a turd

Astonishing to see how good her live performances was. Great voice and great pitch control, despite of the poor quality of her band (brass and guitar are often out of tune). I alway wondered why she never chose a better band to play with.

Such a lovely, spirited, and special lady with a voice and a style that was in a class all by herself, and yet it seemed that so many just didn't take Janis seriously, found it so easy to be condescending and "flip" about her style and her music. Janis was not only terribly talented, but she was so very intelligent... She needed to be acknowledged and complimented and validated and loved. No wonder Janis was so sadly insecure...😢

I agree with Bette on just about all of this. Our British actors helped propped up Hollywood and Claude Raines was wonderful as the other gentlemen she mentioned. It was generous of her to acknowledge them. Bette was wonderful too. She is full of common sense over all of this. All this actors are very much missed. The moderns to me are just not there for me personally. Thank you for this.🙏🇬🇧. Dame Gladys Cooper great too. We have produced wonderful actresses here as well.

Was this normal for the Dick Cavet Show, to introduce a guest, only to have a guest introduced in a previous segment, hog the interview? Is this how Grouch was all the time? I respect him, because of his age & his reputation- but dear lord. Maybe they’re really all friends. Or maybe Capote was so big at that time, he couldn’t care less.

Joe Frazier, and Ali, were both humble ,in their own ways😊with Ali, I've always been of the opinion, he was only ever "Trash talking', too promote his next bout!!😂, and when he paid King , $milliions too promote his fights, it was a total waste of Ali's money!!!, 🤔as, Ali did his, "OWN promoting"!!!!, he'd have the ww media listening too and, 'taking in", every single word!!!!, that he spoke!!!, hence, all king did, "in my humble opinion", was take, and rake in, "mmmmmany millions"!!!of $s!!!, for his idea, of, "the promotion"!!!!, of Ali, FRAZIER, and I think big gentle George!!!!, and, when the Brainless ref!!!, stopped!!!, Ali's 2nd bout with Joe.... about 15/20 seconds too early!!!, in the 2nd round,😮, I was sitting about 5' away from, "the action", and Joe's legs were buckling from underneath him!!! Ali had him, "REALLY beaten"!!!,ALI!! landed a, "left right x!!!!!, combination"...THEN!!!, ALI did it again 3 more xs!!!,🙂 I could clearly hear Joe say,...."SHIT"!!!!😮😮, BJT!!!!, IF that "ref", didn't prematurely stop the bout, at LEAST 15 seconds too early!!!!, I'll never know,if!!!, Ali d v ko'd joe, BUT!!!, HE'D HAVE!!!,"💯 PC CERTAINLY"!!!, HAVE KNOCKED HIM DOWN!!!...'HENCE", it changed the course of, "boxing history".... BECAUSE IT'D HAVE MADE IT 1 ALL, AS JOE!!! "KNOCKED ALI DOWN"!!!, IN THEIR FIRST FIGHT!!!, AND THE MAN SITTING NEXT TO ME, ON MY LEFT, BACKED JOE!!!,😮, BUT!!!, he said.."I don't want too see, Joe, NOT win on his merits Mate"!!!,😟, that was, "Vvvvery unfair on Ali"!!!+!!, I'll bet u, that fn ref!!!, 'WILL NEVER"!!!, GET TO REFEREE ANOTHER PROFESSIONAL BOXING MATCH.... anyway, Ali's wayyyy ahead on points!!!, ATM ANYWAY PETE!!,🤔 HENCE!!!, 'IT'D TAKE A MIRACLE", FOR JOE, "TOO CATCH, "ALI'S SCORE CARD", AND BY THE X ,the fight, restarts, Joe will have had plenty of x too recover!!!,🤔 And, I was a referee for 18 years pete!!,🤔 And, I've ALREADY LOST MY $2000, I HAD ON JOE!!!ATM!!!, ANYWAY, that ref, "WAS disqualified'!!, too the best of my knowledge after the bout!!, and rightly so too!!,

Janis Joplin was my first meaningful "crush" when I was probably 8 or 9 years old and discovering the Woodstock & Monterey Pop films respectively. Man, It's just so surreal to think she was only 3 months away from passing here. She looks so full of life and I just wish she could have seen the impact Pearl would go onto make, at the very least. Her story may have been part of the reason I eventually got addicted to heroin myself on a romanticist level - rockstar curiosity crap - Still It's fucking surreal to think I kicked the shit and she didn't even if I am only 28. Doesn't feel right to say i'm actually older than everyone in that 27 club... Anyway, I just thank my Dad and his side of the family for raising me on the best shit, I think between my aunts and uncles we had 4 copies of Pearl on LP haha. All played to HELL. RIP Janis.
